The Brecon Beacons a truly fantastic place for an holiday with superb walking, mountain biking and horse riding trails, caves and an historic canal – plus characterful towns and wonderful restaurants! As you walk around the town, if you look hard there are many traces of the old town walls still to be found, and many fine Georgian houses and shop fronts to be seen. The Town has an impressive Cathedral, and on a clear day there are magnificent views of the Beacons, and Pen y Fan, the highest point in southern Britain.
The area is perfect for walking, situated right in the heart of the Brecon Beacons. You are guaranteed to find a walk to suit you within easy distance of your base here at Ty Helyg.
Hugely popular in the area with a fantastic route along the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal towpath being a favourite. The area is also famous for its mountain bike routes.
The area offers an array range of options for paddlesports, from the tranquillity of the Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal and Llangorse Lake to extreme kayaking over jaw-dropping waterfalls.
There are two golf courses in Brecon, 9 holes at Brecon Golf Course and 18 at the Championship course at Cradoc. There are many more courses all around the National Park.
Did you know that the Brecon Beacons has some of the darkest night skies in the country? The whole of the National Park has been declared an International Dark Sky Reserve.
Brimming with life and wreathed in legend, the waterfalls and rapids in our National Park add an exciting, picturesque and thoroughly romantic touch to our woodlands and hillsides.
Theatr Brycheiniog is only a stones throw away at the Canal Basin. It provides a varied programme of theatre, dance, music and entertainment in its purpose built 477-seat auditorium.
The area boasts a huge range of shows and festivals including the world famous Hay Literature Festival. Nearby Builth Wells hosts the Royal Welsh Show every summer.
The area is a treasure trove of historical sites with over a dozen castles to visit in the area, including one in Brecon itself! A little further afield, Carreg Cennen at Trapp is definitely worth a visit!
